Record every walk, hike and pack trip with no account and no bars of service. Point the camera at a ridge and Huella names it, measures it, and tells you what kind of ground you’re looking at. Everything you record stays on your phone — and leaves as GPX whenever you say so.

The horizon
“What is that?” is the oldest question on any trail. Huella answers it three ways, and two of them work with the phone in airplane mode.
Download an offline map and the named peaks come with it. Huella computes each summit’s bearing and height above your horizon with earth curvature and atmospheric refraction accounted for — at 30 km, curvature alone moves a peak by the height of a building. A clockwise horizon list works in the dark, with the phone flat on a rock.
The AR view floats each visible summit’s name, height and distance over the live camera. Pointed the wrong way? Edge arrows steer you the short way around to the nearest peak — and when the arrows vanish, you’ve found it.
Not just catalogued peaks: with a signal, put the crosshair on any unnamed ridge, rock face or gap and Huella ray-marches real elevation data to tell you how far, how high — and what it is. “That’s a saddle, 2.4 km out, 1,890 m.”
On the trail
Built native, sensor by sensor. The barometer measures your climb, motion sensing pauses the clock when you stop, and the battery is treated like the finite resource it is at kilometre thirty.
GPS track, barometric climb and descent, moving time, pace — written straight to the device every few seconds, recoverable even if the phone dies mid-walk.
Download a region before you go and the full map — trails, contours, hillshade — draws with zero signal. Summit names ride along with the download.
Import a route from AllTrails, Strava or a friend and follow it offline with live distance-along and off-route readouts. Export any walk the same way. Your data is never hostage.
Every imported route shows its elevation profile — total ascent, the curve, and the steepest sustained pitch. A route with no elevation data says so, honestly, instead of drawing a flat line.
Retrace mode walks you back down your own breadcrumbs, a compass points along your track, and a turn-back timer knows sunset and the climb still ahead of you.
Pin the spring, the gate, the fork that doesn’t show on any map. Landmarks persist across every future walk — and warn you when you’re coming up on one.
Mark something with your voice without breaking stride. Notes pin to the exact point on the trail where you said them.

Huella measures a trail the way a packer reads one — the steepest sustained pitch, not just total climb; real barometric elevation, not GPS guesswork; and a turn-back time that respects how long the descent actually takes. If you move at the speed of your animals, this app already thinks the way you do — and stock-specific features are where it’s headed next.
Privacy
Not a promise buried in a policy — an architecture. There is no server holding your data, because there doesn’t need to be one.
Open the app, press record, walk. No sign-up wall, no email, no analytics, no ads, no trackers. We cannot see your walks — there is no copy anywhere for us to look at.
Recording never touches the network. The two things that do — map tiles and public summit names — are named plainly in the privacy policy, not hidden in it.
Every walk exports as GPX, an open format any mapping tool reads. Delete a walk and it’s gone; delete the app and everything is, because everything lived inside it.

Questions
Yes. Recording, downloaded maps, GPX import and export, route following and summit identification all work in airplane mode. The one feature that needs a signal — live terrain measurement in the AR view — says “no signal” plainly instead of failing quietly.
No account, ever — recording starts the moment you press the button. Huella is free during the beta, and there are no analytics, ads or trackers at any price.
Yes. Import any GPX file and follow it offline with live distance-along and off-route readouts, and see its elevation profile — including the steepest sustained pitch — before you commit to the trailhead. Every recorded walk exports as GPX the same way.
Huella reads the barometer — the same sensor dedicated GPS watches use — and baselines it against GPS. Noise filtering keeps sensor jitter from inventing hundreds of imaginary metres of climb over a long day.
Yes. Tracking works the same at stock pace, the grade and turn-back readouts matter more with a loaded string, and the roadmap is headed toward stock-specific features — the burro on the mark is not decorative.
An iPhone running iOS 18 or later. The AR horizon view uses ARKit, which every recent iPhone supports; the horizon list works on anything, in the dark, with the phone flat on a rock.
